James Garmon

#50

"GPS"

James is a proud Veteran whose career spans multiple branches of service and more than a decade of commitment to the defense of our nation. His journey began in 1992 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving until 1996 with the elite 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (1st ANGLICO). During his time with ANGLICO, James served as a Forward Observer, Radio Operator, and Parachutist, earning his Marine Gold Wings and completing numerous airborne jumps.

His role placed him at the center of high‑stakes operations, calling in Naval Gunfire, Close Air Support (CAS), Artillery, and Mortars. James supported missions during Operation Southern Watch in Southern Iraq and completed multiple deployments, including a WestPac, where he traveled to several countries and participated in joint operations with allied forces. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps after four years of distinguished service.

In 2000, James continued his commitment to service by joining the Alabama Army National Guard, where he served as an 11B Infantryman until 2006. His time in the Guard included activation under Title 10 orders in support of Operation Noble Eagle, as well as responses to numerous natural disasters across the region. He again completed his service with an Honorable Discharge.

Throughout his military career, James earned numerous decorations, awards, and citations, reflecting his professionalism, courage, and dedication to mission success.

Beyond his military accomplishments, James is a devoted family man. He is married to Christy, and together they have two sons and one daughter, who remain the center of his world.

For more than 20 years, James has continued to serve the Warfighter as a government civilian, applying his extensive operational knowledge to directly support those on the front lines.

James discovered the mission of 5th Squad through its message of camaraderie, purpose, and Veteran support. The sense of belonging and shared commitment immediately resonated with him. Becoming part of 5th Squad has restored a piece of his life he felt had been missing — the brotherhood, the mission, and the drive to serve others once again.
