Robert Filbert has been married to his wife Ginger for over 30 years. Together they have two children—a daughter who is married with a son, and a younger son who works in the food industry.
Robert enlisted in the United States Army right after high school and completed Basic Training, Infantry Training, Airborne Training, and RIP before reporting to his first duty station. After leaving active duty, he worked offshore for two years before moving to Jackson, Mississippi.
There, he joined the National Guard while working for the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. Following the events of 9/11, he transitioned to full-time service through an AGR position. Over his career, he held a wide range of roles including BN Training NCO, Pathfinder Detachment NCOIC, Logistician, TM Leader, and Infantryman. He deployed once to Iraq and three times to Afghanistan, leading teams from fireteam to detachment size in combat environments.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Action Badge, Pathfinder Badge, U.S. and German Parachutist Wings, and many others.
After retiring from full-time service, Robert worked in law enforcement, first as a Training Coordinator with his local police department and now as a School Resource Officer. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Belhaven University and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies there.
Robert has served as a board member for the Women’s Adult Teen Challenge across several states and supported organizations such as the Shriners Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is also a Deacon at his church and actively participates in men’s small groups.
As a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 44-4, Robert values the camaraderie of riding alongside fellow veterans. He is honored to serve as part of 5th Squad and remains committed to its mission of supporting veterans in need.
